Acceleware Delivers Performance for MicroSeismic’s Software: Yielding Faster, Higher Resolution Images
CALGARY, Alberta – July 7, 2011 – Acceleware® Ltd. (TSX-V: AXE), a leading developer of high performance computing (HPC) solutions for the oil and gas industry, today announced the successful completion of a professional services engagement with MicroSeismic, Inc., a leading geophysical services company providing 3-D passive seismic imaging for energy exploration and production, to optimize their fracturing / fault prediction code for GPUs. Through this engagement, MicroSeismic can leverage the full computing capacity of GPUs to deliver higher resolution images sooner to their customers.
“Acceleware’s unique combination of seismic industry domain knowledge along with their emphasis on high-performance, parallel computing was the driving force behind this collaboration,” said Michael Thornton, PhD, vice president of data processing, MicroSeismic, Inc. “Our objective is to provide the fastest and most accurate results to our clients and Acceleware gave us the confidence to deliver on this.”
Acceleware provides assistance and expertise to enable customers to maximize the performance offered by today’s computing technologies, translating to an increase in their bottom lines. Upon completion of this project, MicroSeismic was able to achieve an incremental run time speed-up of two to three times compared to their original GPU code.
“While MicroSeismic had already proved the value proposition of GPUs for their internal application, they believed it could be improved with our help,” said Ryan Schneider, CTO of Acceleware. “Through CUDA training and professional services, our staff of high performance computing software developers, mathematicians, and oil and gas scientists helped them to realize an incremental benefit on their hardware investment, effectively turning every $1 spent into $2 to $3 worth of capacity.”
MicroSeismic now benefits from increased capacity in a number of ways; faster results; more accurate solutions in the same turnaround time; and/or additional iterations on jobs; all resulting in an overall increase in customer satisfaction.
